SMHFA - Scotland's Mental Health First Aid
Mental Health First Aid is for everyone. It is about ordinary people helping and supporting others when they need it most.
Mental Health First Aid gives people the knowledge and the confidence to act in a crisis or when someone is distressed.
Not long ago people were afraid of the term mental health. Times have changed and not a moment too soon. We know now that mental health is about everyone and we can make a real difference to our own and other people’s well being.
Mental Health First Aid is a course for anyone who has dealings with other people. Service industries, care organisations, voluntary organisations, churches and clubs could all benefit from having some people trained in Mental Health First Aid.
The course takes 12 hours and can be presented in two days, four half days or six short sessions.
I am a member of the National Training Team for Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid and the writer of the new redeveloped materials.
